AJ possesses a wealth of experience, exceptional skills, and vast knowledge, acquired throughout his valued union service, resulting in the proven leadership he demonstrates today. AJ is an approachable guy who is no stranger to hard work; widely known as a man of honor, strength, and integrity, he is motivated to help others. He is a passionate, persuasive, and articulate speaker on issues that affect our members; a relentless, dedicated leader who is respected in the labor movement.
AJ is known as an enthusiastic, engaging instructor, teaching an array of topics at tri-states, state conventions, and National Presidents’ Conferences, advancing new, strong representatives, and keeping experienced leaders action-ready.
AJ Jones is always willing to take the lead on any issue. He enjoys exchanging ideas and collaborating with others; is extremely gifted in developing strategies that are effective in our fight and will work tirelessly to make this union the best it can be.
AJ recognizes that the focus of any union must always be its members. His loyalty to the members speaks volumes. With AJ leading as our National President, members will again be a priority.
EXPERIENCE and ACCOMPLISHMENTS
AJ is currently the APWU Eastern Region Coordinator, which he was elected to in November 2019 by an overwhelming majority. Before that, he was the full-time president of the Eastern Montgomery County, PA Area Local #2233, totaling 37 plus years of experience. He was an arbitration advocate and a champion against excessing.
AJ has a strong background in contract enforcement. Just a few of his career highlights include securing, with NBA Ken Prinz, an arbitration award worth $3.9 million for a Motor Vehicle Services subcontracting violation in transportation; obtaining nearly $500,000 in restitution because of the Global Settlement Remedy Agreement and AJ was instrumental in achieving a $16 million settlement for casuals-in-lieu-of violations in a single installation.
AJ began his postal career in February 1988, promptly joining the union. He first became a union steward and later was elected to local business agent in January 1995. In October 1996, AJ was appointed local vice president, serving in that capacity for 11 years before being elected local president in January 2007.
AJ is a graduate of West Virginia Summer School and the Maritime Institute National Labor College. He is an expert safety representative; proficient in OSHA and abating hazards, certified as an Eastern Region Safety and Health Representative, and is an OWCP Federal Injury Compensation Specialist certified by the Department of Labor. AJ is also a recipient of the prestigious APWU Auxiliary Bridge Builders Award.
As President of Eastern Montgomery County, PA Area Local #2233, AJ was appointed to numerous national committees and assignments. He was appointed to the Rank-and-File Advisory Committee in 2018 where he was elected co-chair by fellow committee members from across the country. He has served on the Human Relations Committee at multiple APWU national conventions; was a senior member of the Philadelphia Metro EAP District Advisory Committee, and served as a valued member on the Joint Committee of the EAP.
AJ Jones served on the National President’s Conference Audit/Constitution Committee for many years. AJ is seated on the Southeast Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO Executive Board and has been reelected to his 9th term as vice chair.
Since being elected Eastern Region Coordinator in 2019, AJ has continued to lead the way in the fight for our members’ rights. Protecting members from the many deceptive Article 12 implementations in the Eastern Region, and protecting members from being excessed.
Most recently, AJ was nominated and later received the prestigious leader of the year award presented by the New Jersey State Postal Workers Union.
